Woman ordered to repay ex-employer $2,470

URBANA — A Champaign woman who admitted stealing from a former employer was ordered Wednesday to serve two years of conditional discharge and repay the money she stole.

Chandre Johnson-Marino, 38, whose last known address was in the 800 block of Hollycrest Drive, pleaded guilty before Champaign County Judge Tom Difanis to misdemeanor theft, admitting that between August and October 2011, she stole cash from the Crestview Commons apartment complex.

Assistant State's Attorney Troy Lozar said Johnson-Marino was employed in the office of the complex at 1205 E. Florida Ave., U, at the time and was accepting cash from tenants for rent, then pocketing the money for herself.

Court records show a warrant was issued for her arrest in December 2011 but she didn't make her first court appearance until October 2012.

In exchange for Johnson-Marino's plea to the misdemeanor charge, a more serious charge of felony theft was dismissed.

She was ordered to repay the business $2,470.
