Chillicothe woman injured in crash on I-74

UPDATED 9:45 p.m. Thursday

CHAMPAIGN — A Chillicothe woman was reported injured in a two-vehicle crash at the Interstate 74-Interstate 57 interchange late Thursday afternoon.

Trooper Tracy Lillard said that Lindsey M. James, 21, of Chillicothe was driving a pickup truck and was merging onto Interstate 74 westbound from Interstate 57 northbound when she lost control of her vehicle at 4:22 p.m. Thursday.

The truck spun across both westbound lanes on I-74 before it was hit by a westbound semitrailer truck driven by Allen L. Herman, 50, of Columbus, Ohio.

James was extricated from the truck and taken to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, which had no information on her condition late Thursday night.

Lillard said both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Police ticketed James for driving too fast for conditions.

The crash forced the westbound lanes of Interstate 74 to be closed between Prospect Avenue and the interchange for about an hour while emergency crews worked at the scene of the crash.
