Mahomet man arrested for indecent exposure
MAHOMET — A 74-year-old Mahomet man has been charged with indecent exposure.
Mahomet Police Chief Mike Metzler said Russell B. Malloch, who listed an address in the 300 block of West State Street, was arrested Wednesday for allegedly exposing himself to two girls on Dec. 13.
Assistant State’s Attorney Dan Clifton told Judge Richard Klaus that Malloch was standing in the open window of his own home that day, which is within 500 feet of the Mahomet-Seymour Junior High School, exposing himself in a lewd manner.
Clifton said the girls, ages 12 and 13, both saw Malloch take down his pants as they passed. The prosecutor said Malloch admitted to police that he had taken his pants down but denied exposing his genitals.
Metzler said the girls were walking home from school about 4:30 p.m. when they saw Malloch. The chief said they promptly reported the incident to police, who have been investigating since.
Mahomet-Seymour school officials have been made aware of the investigation, Metzler said.
Assistant State’s Attorney Dan Clifton said Malloch had a 1965 conviction for indecent liberties with a child and a 1982 misdemeanor conviction for disorderly conduct for exposing himself.
Judge Richard Klaus set Malloch’s bond at $10,000 and told him to be back in court March 12.
If convicted of the felony offense, Malloch faces penalties ranging from probation to one to three years in prison.
