Savoy considers fee on video gaming

SAVOY — The village board this week discussed collecting a fee on video gaming machines within Savoy.

Board members were all in favor of charging the maximum allowable fee of $25 annually per machine. Village officials will draft an ordinance.

Two establishments in the village have the video gaming machines. Old Orchard Lanes has five machines, and the Elks Lodge also has five machines. Emma's Eatery, a new cafe bistro scheduled to open this spring in the Savoy Plaza, also plans to have five of the machines.

In other news, other businesses are expected to open in the near future. The construction of the CVS is complete, and a certificate of occupancy has been issued. The store is expected to open in February.

Also opening in February is the Triptych Brewery. Brewing has begun at the "nanobrewery," and the owners expect the tasting room to open in mid-February.
