BLOOMINGTON — An Urbana man has been identified as the victim of a car-pedestrian accident in Bloomington.

Leon Forristall of the 800 block of Peach Tree Street in Urbana died after he was hit by a car in Bloomington on Thursday night.

McLean County Coroner Beth Kimmerling said the 73-year-old was walking across the 1300 block of East Grove Street in Bloomington to his parked vehicle when a westbound car hit him about 8 p.m. Thursday.

Dave White, public affairs officer of the Bloomington Police Department, said after an eastbound car passed him, Mr. Forristall started to cross and was hit by a car driven by Timothy Sleever, 42, of Bloomington.

"It was raining, it was dark," said White, adding that Sleever "never even saw him. ... It was one of those tragic things."

Sleever stopped immediately, according to White and Kimmerling. Emergency personnel took Mr. Forristall to OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington, where he was pronounced dead at 9:34 p.m. Thursday.

An autopsy on Friday showed Mr. Forristall died of multiple blunt force injuries. Toxicology tests will be ordered, according to Kimmerling.

White said speed wasn't a factor, "and no alcohol was involved for either" Mr. Forristall or Sleever. He said no tickets have been issued and he did not expect any to be issued.
