Urbana woman arrested for drug possession

URBANA — An Urbana woman is due back in court on March 12 after police found suspected drugs in her home.

Taron Burns, 29, who listed an address in the 400 block of West Elm Street, pleaded innocent on Friday to felony unlawful possession with the intent to deliver marijuana.

According to an police report, Urbana police received information about potential narcotics activity at Burns' apartment.

After police asked for and got a search warrant for her home, officers executed the warrant at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Police found about 2 pounds of suspected marijuana in two containers, plastic bags, two scales and about $600 in cash in the apartment.

Police said Burns admitted to officers that the bulk of the items belonged to her.

Burns is being held at the Champaign County Jail on $25,000 bond.
