University Primary accepting applications

CHAMPAIGN — Those who are interested in enrolling their children at University Primary School have several chances to learn more about the University of Illinois-affiliated school.

The school is now accepting applications for the 2013-14 school year.

Families applying to the school must call and schedule a site visit or attend the Feb. 20 and Feb. 21 community open houses.

During the open houses, families may observe the preschool classroom between 8:30 a.m. and noon, or the combined kindergarten and first-grade classroom and combined second- and third- grade classroom between 8:30 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. Children are encouraged to visit, too.

In addition, an optional prospective parent informational meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Feb. 12 in room 75 of the Children's Research Center, 51 Gerty Drive, C. That's also where the school is located.

Enrollment applications may be downloaded from the school's website at, or a hard copy may be picked up at the school. Applications for the 2013-2014 academic year are due March 15. Applications submitted by this date will be given first consideration.

University Primary School is an early childhood lab school affiliated with the UI College of Education and serves preschool through third-grade children in a project-based curriculum.

Children must be 3 years old on or before Sept. 1 to enroll in the preschool classroom and 5 years old on or before that date to enroll in kindergarten.
