King march, motorcade set in Danville

DANVILLE — The Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration committee in Danville is inviting all citizens to participate in its annual march and motorcade on Monday.

The line-up for the march and motorcade will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at the corner of Main Street and Logan Avenue, and the procession will start at 10:30 a.m. The procession will travel throughout the downtown and end at the site of the community-wide celebration service, which will begin at 11:30 a.m. at St. James United Methodist Church, 504 N. Vermilion St., Danville.

The route for the march and motorcade will travel east on Main Street from Logan Avenue and turn north onto Vermilion Street. At Seminary Street, the procession will turn east and travel to the corner of Jackson and Seminary streets where it will turn north onto Jackson Street and pause at the corner of Jackson and Williams streets. There, in front of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. monument, the procession will participate in a short ceremony, and then proceed west on Williams Street to Vermilion Street, turn north onto Vermilion Street, then west onto Davis Street, where the march and motorcade can enter the parking lot on the northwest side of St. James United Methodist Church.
