Pedestrian killed in DeWitt by alleged drunken driver

 

CLINTON - A 72-year-old DeWitt man has been arrested for aggravated driving under the influence for allegedly causing the death of a pedestrian in DeWitt late Saturday night.

 

A release from the DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office said a pedestrian, whose name has not been released, was hit by a vehicle in the village of DeWitt.

 

The driver, Duane R. Boyer,  was arrested for aggravated DUI and taken to  the DeWitt County Jail.  The name of the victim is not being released until relatives have been notified by the coroner.

 

At 11:17 p.m.  Saturday,  emergency crews were sent to the intersection of Bloomington and Franklin Street in DeWitt after callers to 911 reported a person had been run over by a vehicle. 

 

Investigation into the incident resulted in the arrest of Boyer of DeWitt for aggravated DUI, a class 2 felony.   

 

The matter remains under investigation by the sheriff and coroner.
