Two vans crash in rural Piatt County

RURAL PIATT COUNTY — Two men were taken to an area hospital following a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon in rural Piatt County.

According to a state police report, Arthur G. Finet, 79, of Monticello was driving a van east on Illinois 10 about 10 feet west of Bonnie Drive at 2:50 p.m. Monday and was slowing down to turn right onto Bonnie Drive when his van was hit from behind by another van driven by William  A. Alexander, 75, of White Heath.

Bonnie Drive is between Shady Rest Road and Mansfield Road and west of the Interstate 72 interchange in rural Piatt County.

After Alexander’s van crashed into the rear bumper of Finet’s van, Alexander’s van then rotated about 180 degrees in a counterclockwise motion before landing in the westbound lane of Illinois 10.

Both Alexander and Finet were taken to Kirby Medical Center in Monticello, where they were checked for injuries. No information was available on their conditions on Monday night.

The report said that both men were wearing their seat belts.

Police ticketed Alexander for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
