URBANA — A Champaign man who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in that city Saturday is being held on $500,000 bond.
Troy Anthony Meyers, 44, for whom court records listed two different addresses in Champaign, was charged Monday with a single count of criminal sexual assault, alleging he forcibly assaulted a 30-year-old woman at her home on Boulder Ridge Drive in Champaign.
A Champaign police report said the woman called police just after 8 a.m. Saturday saying she'd been battered and sexually assaulted by Meyers, whom she knows. Police went to the home and found Meyers in the basement.
Meyers, however, has not been arraigned yet since he refused to appear before Judge Richard Klaus in arraignment court Monday and again on Tuesday.
Klaus said he intended to order Meyers to appear on Wednesday.
Because of prior convictions, Meyers is eligible for sentencing as a Class X felon of up to six to 30 years.
In 2002, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison for a Champaign County drug conviction involving the sale of cocaine.
