Cocaine possession brings probation sentence

URBANA — A Champaign man who admitted possessing a small amount of cocaine last spring has been sentenced to a form of probation.

D'Andre Miller, 26, whose last known address was in the 200 block of Arcadia Drive, pleaded guilty before Judge Heidi Ladd in January to possession of a controlled substance.

He admitted that on May 16, he had about a half-gram of cocaine on him when Urbana police found him in a vehicle, which they had suspected was involved in a drug transaction, behind a business in the 1900 block of North Cunningham Avenue. Police found cannabis in plain sight and open alcohol.

Miller was sentenced to 30 months of conditional discharge, a form of probation that does not require a defendant to regularly report to a probation officer.

More serious charges alleging Miller had cocaine and cannabis intended for sale were dismissed in return for his guilty plea.
