GIBSON CITY — Illinois Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka will be the keynote speaker at the Ford County Republican Party's Lincoln Day Dinner on Thursday evening.

The event, which will be held at the Kruse Center in Gibson City, will begin with a 5:15 p.m. social hour, followed by dinner at 6 p.m.

Topinka began her political career as a state representative from the western suburbs in 1980.

She served a decade in the state Senate and was elected state treasurer in 1994, and re-elected in 1998 and 2002. In 2006, she was the Republican candidate for governor against Rod Blagojevich, losing 50 percent to 40 percent.
