State health department honors pair for community contributions

The Illinois Department of Public Health has honored two local people for their contributions to the Champaign County community.

Doctor Napoleon Knight and Champaign Deputy City Manager for Community Relations Joan Walls were honored at a ceremony on Wednesday at the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District.

Knight, who's the Medical Director and a doctor at Carle Foundation Hospital was honored for his work in dealing with childhood obesity.


    
Knight also said that looking forward, he will work with a local non-profit group to create a community garden.

Meanwhile, Joan said it's important for the community to work together to improve the lives of families and the youth.
    

    
Walls also said there is still more work to do, and she said that process begins next week when she meets with those community organizations to begin working on future projects.
