Man charged in one domestic battery arrested for another

CHAMPAIGN — A man accused of beating up his girlfriend and threatening her with a knife remained jailed Saturday on preliminary charges of aggravated domestic battery and unlawful restraint.

Antonio Carter, 25, who listed an address in the 200 block of East Bellefontaine Street, was wanted on a warrant for felony domestic battery issued Thursday in Champaign County Circuit Court for batteries to the same woman that allegedly occurred in December and on Feb. 4.

Assistant State’s Attorney Chris Kanis said at about 2 a.m. Saturday, Carter called the 21-year-old woman, whom he’d been dating for eight months, to apologize to her for the beating he gave her on Monday. He asked her to come to his home, which she did.

Once there, Carter allegedly told the woman he would beat her for having called the police on him. She tried to run from the apartment but he allegedly grabbed her by the throat and began choking her, Kanis said.

She begged him to let her go but he dragged her to a bedroom and allegedly punched her in the face with a closed fist, knocking her to the ground. He then put his knee on her back and pinned her to the floor, Kanis said.

The woman bit Carter’s finger trying to get away. He eventually sent her to the bathroom to wipe blood off her face but came in with a steak knife while she was doing so, telling her, “I feel like killing you.” She lay on the floor and covered her head for protection, and he allegedly pressed the knife into her back, making a slight cut.

When Carter fell asleep, the woman left the home and called police.

Carter was expected to be formally charged on Monday.

06 Domestic Battery misdemeanor - dismissed as part of plea agreement in other case

06 - Order of Protection granted

08 - Charged with aggravated domestic battery felony - pled to domestic battery misdemeanor, got probation.

09 - Charged with violating order of protection with prior domestic battery felony - pled guilty, got 23 days time served and probation - unsuccessful discharge from probation.

12 - Order of Protection filed, then petitioner didn't show up

He's also pled to two other felonies. Now two more felony domestic batteries. I hope they throw the book at this guy.
