No one hurt in Sunday morning apartment fire in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN — Fire damaged an apartment building early Sunday morning, but no one was hurt.

Champaign fire Capt. Dave Ferber said firefighters found heavy smoke coming out of a third-floor apartment at 1503 Kiler Dr. when they arrived just after 4 a.m., and they discovered flames when they got inside.

Ferber said one person was inside the apartment at the time of the fire but was able to get out safely before firefighters arrived. No one else was hurt.

Ferber said estimates show $50,000 worth of damage to the structure and $10,000 in damage to the contents of the apartment building. Investigators on Sunday night were still trying to determine was caused the fire.
