Champaign man charged in cocaine case

CHAMPAIGN — A Champaign man accused of having cocaine intended for sale near a church has been criminally charged.

Coritez Edwards, 22, who listed an address in the 900 block of Alagna Drive, was arraigned Tuesday on charges of possession with intent to deliver cocaine and delivery of cocaine.

The charges stem from incidents that allegedly occurred on Jan. 28 and 30 in the 1100 block of Eureka Street and the 1200 block of Eureka Street respectively.

Edwards allegedly sold crack cocaine to a source working with police on both occasions.

If convicted of the more serious Class X felony charges, Edwards faces six to 30 years in prison.

He's being held in the county jail in lieu of $500,000 bond. He was told to be back in court March 26.
