Truck driver injured, ticketed in I-72 crash

Updated 3:45 p.m. Tuesday.

A 66-year-old Weldon man was hospitalized when the tractor-trailer truck he was driving overturned at a ramp onto Interstate 72.

State police said Charles Penny was westbound on Illinois 10, turning left onto I-72 in Piatt County, at 10:53 a.m. Tuesday, when he lost control and his truck rolled onto its passenger side.

He was extricated from the truck and taken to Carle Foundation Hospital. He was listed in serious condition Tuesday afternoon.

Police said he was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
