Woman sentenced to probation for fabricating story
URBANA — A University of Illinois student from Chicago who made up a story that she had been raped in her dormitory has been sentenced to a year of probation.
Ferai Pickett, 19, who lived in Clark Hall, 1203 S. Fourth St., C, last spring, pleaded guilty Monday before Champaign County Judge Heidi Ladd to disorderly conduct, a Class 4 felony.
She admitted that on April 19, she told a UI police officer that she had been raped in her dormitory by two men who were selling magazines, when it never happened.
Assistant State's Attorney Chris Kanis said police examined security video and found no evidence to support what she had told them. She eventually admitted having fabricated the story, he said.
