Champaign PTA Council sets panel on mental health

CHAMPAIGN — The Champaign school district's Parent Teacher Association Council is holding another panel discussion on mental health.

Parents are invited, and many Champaign schools' administrators, staff and faculty members will also attend.

The forum will feature panelists from local organizations that address mental health, including some who attended a similar forum in January and some who didn't attend that night.

The forum is scheduled for 7 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 21, at the board room in the Mellon Administrative Center, 703 S. New St., C.

Just a reminder to the planners of these very important panel discussions about mental health within the county that there is a Champaign County Community Justice TF. This TF is charged with studying our local jail/community justice issue, including provisions or lack thereof of and for mental health. In fact, mental health is moving to the top of the concern list because our county provisions to work with and handle are insufficient. In addition, the new CB has expanded the charge to the TF to include juveniles. So I hope that these panel discussions, albeit important, do not remain siloed and will include what the county is doing. Remember the county funds many of these agencies, some via your tax dollars.
