Dyslexia group to host workshop

URBANA — Linking Educators and Parents, a dyslexia study group serving East Central Illinois, is hosting a free workshop called Seeing the Sense in Spelling.

It's scheduled from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26 in the Urbana Free Library Auditorium, 200 W. Green St., U.

It will feature presenter Gina Cooke, who will offer "linguistically accurate information and strategies" for classroom teachers, special education teachers, speech and language therapists and parents, according to a news release.

Cooke has worked with Children's Dyslexia Centers for more than a decade and has trained hundreds of teachers and supervised the teaching of thousands of children.

The event is free, but you're asked to register by emailing Marilyn Kay at mfkay@sbcglobal.net or by calling 217-367-0398.

CPDU credits are available for teachers through the regional office of education. Teachers are asked to include their name and school when requesting CPDUs.
