Paxton woman collecting prom dresses for others to use

PAXTON — A Paxton woman is asking people to donate their used prom dresses so they can be rented or sold at a low cost to local teenagers who might otherwise not be able to afford them.

The prom-dress collection drive is being organized by Debbie Kafer. It will culminate with the Paxton Prom Dress Event, scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. March 2 at the Paxton Market Street Theatre.

At the event, all the prom dresses donated will be available for purchase or rental. Fitting rooms will be set up so the dresses can be tried on.

"We're going to rent prom dresses for $25 for overnight prom, and there's also going to be a tag that's going to give you a purchase price in case the girls fall in love with the dress and they want to take it home and keep it," Kafer said.

There will be a $3 admission fee to help cover the cost of renting the theater for the event, although the fee will be waived for anyone who donates a prom dress.

To donate a dress in advance of the event, drop it off at Kafer's home at 6 Dawn Ave., Paxton, or call her at 778-9528.

I've read this article 7 times now just to make sure I'm not missing anything, but, there is.

Where's the money going? What's the money being raised for for?

Once again, the N-G fails at the standards of reporting:Who? What? Where? When? How? and Why?

Who is it? Paxton Prom Dress Event

What is it? Prom dress collection drive to rent or purchase dresses by local teenages who might not be able to afford them.

Where is it? Event held at Paxton Market Street Theater

When is it? 2 to 4pm March - but what date?

How is it accomplished? Via donations

Why? What does it benefit? Who or what does the money benefit? Is it to obtain funds to offset the costs of the prom?

It says that the $3 admission fee is for the rental of the venue, but not what the rental or purchase money of the dresses is being collect for?

Too many questions not addressed by the reporter and left unanswered in this article.

Thanks for the note. I've added the date, which was inadvertently dropped out before this story was published. It's March 2.

And I've asked Will Brumleve to address your question about the purpose and what happens to the money.

I'm sorry the story didn't live up to your expectations.
