Blaze in Sidell called a total loss

UPDATED 8 p.m. Monday

SIDELL — Investigators from the state fire marshal’s office are expected to be at the scene on Tuesday to try to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed a two-story house in Sidell on Monday.

Nobody was reported hurt, according to a fire department report.

Lt. Gregory Filicsky of the Sidell Fire Department said firefighters were called to a house at 205 Clark St., Sidell, at about 2 p.m. Monday.

Firefighters from Sidell were assisted by firefighters from Allerton, Indianola, Fairmount, Oakwood, Broadlands and Longview.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found the home totally engulfed in fire.

Two occupants of the home, a woman and a boy, and their pets escaped without injury.

Filicsky said it appeared that the fire started somewhere in the rear of the house.

He said firefighters had the fire under control by 4 p.m. and left the scene at 7:10 p.m.

Filicsky said the home was a total loss, estimating damage at between $70,000 and $100,000.
