Piatt County board sells Annex

The Piatt County Board on Friday sold its former annex building to a local businessman.

The 14,000-square-foot annex, empty since county offices moved to the former Kirby Hospital site a year ago, was sold for $70,000 to Chris Dick of DeLand, the owner of Illini Overhead Door Co. in Monticello.

Dick said he hopes to move from his current office with four employees to the annex by the end of March.

“It will give me more room, better office space, and it's a little cleaner space,” said Dick, who beat out three other bidders.

The county last June tried to sell the property near the downtown business district by public auction, but was unable to get its minimum bid of $90,000. The county board decided last month to take sealed bids, which ranged from $1,000 to the $70,000 submitted by Dick.

Board members voted 5-1 to approve the bid. Thomas Dobson was the dissenter, saying he voted 'no' because he felt the property “was worth more than that.”

Closing costs will be split between the county and Dick.
