Autopsy planned for body found near Hoopeston

HOOPESTON — An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning on a body found in northern Vermilion County Sunday.

A release from Vermilion County Coroner Peggy Johnson said only that the sheriff’s office and a deputy coroner were called to a location southeast of Hoopeston Sunday afternoon where a woman’s body was found.

No identification has been made and Johnson could not say if the woman is Amanda Walters-Pentecost, 33, of Watseka, who was reported missing in January and was last seen around Hoopeston on Feb. 1.

A deputy coroner in Vermilion County refused to answer any other questions about the circumstances of the body’s discovery. No one from the Vermilion County sheriff’s office could be reached for comment Sunday evening.

More information was expected to be released Monday.
