Aggravated criminal sexual abuse charge dismissed

URBANA — A criminal charge lodged against an Urbana man for allegedly having sex with a teen has been dismissed.

Assistant State's Attorney Scott Larson said he dismissed a single felony count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse Monday against Solomon Hawkins, 21, whose last known address was in the 1600 block of East Florida Avenue, because the alleged victim could not be found to testify against him.

Hawkins had been charged in November with the crime after police stopped him on Nov. 8 for a traffic violation and found girls in his car. One of the girls, aged 16, told police that she and Hawkins had been involved in a sexual relationship for more than a year.

Under Illinois law, the girl is not old enough to consent to sex.
