Wisconsin man injured in I-74/57 crash

CHAMPAIGN — A Wisconsin man was being treated Friday afternoon at a local hospital after losing control of his car on an interstate ramp late Friday morning.

A release from Illinois State Police at Pesotum said Laurel Schroeder, 76, of Milwaukee, was driving his Buick Park Avenue from Interstate 74 eastbound to I-57 southbound about 11:35 a.m. when he lost control because his brakes apparently did not work.

The car went into a ditch and struck an embankment with the right front passenger side, police said.

Schroeder, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital, police said. Information on him was unavailable.

He was issued tickets for not wearing a seat belt, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

A passenger, Nora E. Diderich, 63, also of Milwaukee, was not injured, police said.
