Man pleads guilty to criminal damage to property

URBANA — A Champaign man who took part in trying to steal copper from a vacant building in Champaign has been sentenced to 18 months of probation.

Kendall Andrews, 33, who listed an address in the 1500 block of Holly Hill Drive, pleaded guilty Tuesday to criminal damage to property, admitting that on May 23, he damaged air conditioning and other mechanical units at the old Dogs and Suds restaurant, 608 Town Center Boulevard, Champaign.

Assistant State's Attorney Matt Banach said police found Andrews and others that day in a vehicle with tools used to remove copper pipes. Banach said the damage to the pipes was in excess of $300.
