Man sentenced to jail, probation for credit card use

URBANA — An Urbana man who used the credit card of another person unlawfully was sentenced Tuesday to a year of probation and 67 days in the county jail.

Gerald Sims, 37, whose last known address was in the 1700 block of Florida Avenue, pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a credit card, admitting that on Dec. 28, he used the credit card of a woman to obtain lodging at an Urbana motel.

Assistant State's Attorney Matt Banach said Sims got the woman's credit card number while he was working at a store on North Prospect Avenue in Champaign.

Sims had prior convictions for retail theft, criminal trespass to property, possession of cannabis, delivery of cannabis and criminal trespass to vehicle, Banach said.
