Savoy board OKs fire station bid

SAVOY — The addition of a second story to the Savoy Fire Department will be over budget after the village board approved a construction bid with the inclusion of three optional features.

The total cost of the project is not to exceed $212,723. The amount originally budgeted was $200,000.

The board opted to include the three alternative features to avoid unnecessarily increasing costs by adding them later. The three alternatives are library cabinets and shelving, metal lockers and added insulation.

Ten construction bids were received for the project, ranging from $160,000 to $286,000.

The winning bidder, Bolton Construction Inc. of Champaign, had the lowest base bid for the project, without the added features, at $160,534. The three optional features add $18,159 to the cost of the remodel. The remaining $34,030 is budgeted for other project costs and project contingencies.

Construction on the project is expected to begin Monday and be complete before the end of June.
