Urbana man arrested for aggravated criminal sexual abuse

URBANA — An Urbana man is being held at the Champaign County Jail following his arrest for the aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a 9-year-old girl.

Matthew Thoma, 22, who listed an address in the 100 block of South Glover Avenue, Urbana, pleaded innocent on Monday to one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Judge Harry Clem set Thoma's bond over the weekend at $3,500.

According to a police report, Thoma is in a dating relationship with a person who also lives at that address, and the victim was related to the person he was dating.

On Friday, Thoma was in bed watching television with the little girl sitting at the foot of the bed. Police said Thoma grabbed the girl and made sexual contact with her.

Another adult opened the door and found the two of them together, with the girl leaving the room.

The other adult called 911 and told Thoma to leave. Police found him outside the home and arrested him.

Thoma's next court appearance was set for May 7.
