URBANA — An Urbana man who admitted he robbed a sandwich delivery man last fall was sentenced Monday to four years of probation.
Assistant State's Attorney Scott Larson said he had sought a prison sentence from Judge Harry Clem for Benjamin Velez-Johnson, 25, whose last known address was in the 400 block of East Elm Street.
Velez-Johnson had pleaded guilty in early February to robbery, admitting that he took part with two others on Oct. 12 in robbing a Jimmy John's delivery man of sandwiches in the 500 block of East Green Street in Urbana.
In addition to the sentence of probation, Clem sentenced Velez-Johnson to 180 days in the county jail but gave him credit for 64 days already served.
He also ordered him to get substance abuse and mental health evaluations.
Larson said Velez-Johnson had prior misdemeanor convictions from Indiana.
