Man arrested for having drugs in car

URBANA — An Urbana man who allegedly had cannabis and cocaine in his car when stopped by police Tuesday was arrested.

Urbana police Sgt. Dan Morgan said officers on the street crimes unit saw Anthony Fowler, 22, who listed an address in the 1300 block of Berkley Avenue, driving near Wright and Beslin streets just before 11 a.m. Knowing he didn’t have a driver’s license, they stopped him.

A search of his car turned up just over 4 ounces of suspected cannabis, 1.47 grams of cocaine, and $520 cash, Morgan said.

Fowler was charged Wednesday with possession of a controlled substance and possession of cannabis, both felonies carrying penalties ranging from probation to one to three years in prison upon conviction.

He was also ticketed for driving without a valid license.
