URBANA — The Social Justice Committee at Urbana High School is collecting formal wear and accessories for men and women to stock an affordable, vintage boutique for their fellow students to wear to prom.
"Students serving on the Social Justice Committee decided that prom, as a quintessential high school experience, should be an accessible and inclusive one for all students," said Rachel Moyer, an English teacher and the committee's chairwoman. "Students' serious sense of style is a strength that students bring to UHS and now they are sharing that asset by hosting a hip boutique that sells up-cycled, affordable dress clothes, shoes and accessories."
The group is asking for gently used dresses, dress pants, shoes, accessories and other items that will be appropriate for male and female students to look their best at prom.
The event doubles as a Social Justice Committee fundraiser. All proceeds from the boutique will go to the committee, which is made up of students, faculty and community members. Clothes, accessories, and shoes will cost no more than $10 each.
