Rantoul man jailed for cannabis

RANTOUL — A Rantoul man who allegedly had more than 3 ounces of cannabis in his girlfriend’s home Friday was arrested by Rantoul police.

Rantoul police Sgt. Marcus Beach said his department had been investigating Shakeem Holt, 19, for several months and learned that he had allegedly been selling cannabis from his mother’s home in the 600 block of Heath Drive and his girlfriend’s home in the 1000 block of Clark Street.

Beach said officers had enough information to obtain search warrants for both homes, which they served Friday morning with the help of the METRO team.

Beach said officers recovered more than 100 grams of cannabis total from both places.

Holt was at his girlfriend’s home on Clark Street, where he was arrested for possession with intent to deliver cannabis.

He was being held in the county jail Saturday in lieu of $7,500 bond and was expected to be formally charged Monday.
