UI, union to meet again next week

Negotiators for the University of Illinois and its building and food service workers will meet again next week.

After two days of negotiations, building and food service workers still don't have a contract agreement with the University of Illinois.

The two sides met again Tuesday and Adam Rosen, spokesman for the Service Employees International Union Local 73, said the union delivered a counter-proposal to the UI and now the group is waiting to hear back from the university.

Rosen expects that to happen at the next negotiation session, on March 27, after he said there was slight progress made Tuesday.

He said next week's meeting could be a big step in either direction, depending on how talks go and the U-of-I's response.

This week's negotiation sessions with a federal mediator followed a three-day strike last week, where nearly 800 building and food service workers were picketing on the UI campus after rejecting the latest offer from the university.
