CHAMPAIGN — A cab driver outside his car at a north Champaign gas station early Monday was robbed at gunpoint, according to Champaign police.

Sgt. Dave Griffet said the 51-year-old Urbana man had pulled in to the Mobil Super Pantry, 1511 N. Prospect Ave., about 2:45 a.m. Monday to get gas. He was outside his car about to pump when a man walked up to him, displayed a handgun and took about $300 from him.

The robber was described as a black man, about 25 to 30 years old, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches, with a medium build. He was wearing a dark hooded sweat shirt with dark pants, Griffet said.

The man was last seen running behind the business toward Francis Drive, Griffet said.
