Cause of tool shed fire near Homer under investigation

HOMER — Personnel from the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System Division 28 investigation team are looking into the cause of a fire at a tool shed northeast of Homer late Friday afternoon.

According to a fire department report, firefighters were called to a fire at a metal tool shed at 398 Lincoln Trail Road, about 5 miles northeast of Homer, at 5:51 p.m.

Homer firefighters were assisted by firefighters from St. Joseph-Stanton, Ogden-Royal and Fithian.

Homer Fire Chief Don Happ said firefighters saw flames coming out of the building when they arrived.

The homeowner, listed as Cody Roberts, was in his home and didn’t know the building was on fire, according to Happ. The fire was called in by a neighbor.

Firefighters had the fire under control by 6:08 p.m. and left the scene by 7:30 p.m., Happ said.

Happ estimated total damage at between $25,000 and $30,000.
