Police seek help in Urbana shooting

URBANA — Urbana police are asking for help from the public in finding a man who allegedly shot another man on the city's east side last weekend.

Lt. Bryant Seraphin said officers were called to the apartment complex at 1404 Silver St. just after 1 a.m. on March 16, initially on a report of a domestic dispute. As they were en route, the call changed to one that shots had been fired.

Seraphin said officers found a 19-year-old man had been shot in the arm, allegedly by Turhan Sims, 25, who lived in the same apartment as the victim.

Seraphin said Sims and the other man are the boyfriends of the two women who live in the apartment.

The other man and his girlfriend had been arguing and Sims reportedly joined in, shifting the confrontation from between the man and woman to between the man and Sims.

It continued in the parking lot of the complex, where other people gathered.

"At some point, Turhan Sims produces a handgun and fires multiple shots in the direction of the victim, striking him once in the arm and then everyone runs," said Seraphin.

Police have been unable to find Sims.

On Thursday, they obtained a warrant for his arrest charging him with attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm. Judge Richard Klaus set bond at $500,000.

Seraphin said Sims is a black man, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, 160 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

Hey!  Where did he get that handgun from??  Doesn't he know that you can't carry a loaded gun in Illinois??  I'm sure he took it out of his case and loaded it to assault the guy, so no worries, he wasn't breaking the law before he broke the law and if we had concealed carry here, I'm sure he would have gone through the training and background check, paid the fees and everying before he carried a loaded firearm.  All is well.

He bought it off of a legal FOID cardholder who was looking to make a profit probably.  Some kind of gun nut who has contempt for the existing gun laws based on his fantasized Second Amendment rights.

Then search by name, city, state.  If I can find his photo in 2 seconds on the internet, couldn't the News-Gazette print it?
