Danville police investigate shooting

DANVILLE — Danville police are investigating a shooting that injured a 15-year-old Danville resident over the weekend.

Police were called to the 800 block of North Griffin Street shortly after midnight Friday to a call of shots fired, Public Safety Director Larry Thomason said.

Thomason said people were leaving a private party at the Boys & Girls Club of Danville, 850 N. Griffin St., when they heard the shots. He said a 15-year-old male was crossing Griffin Street when he realized he had been shot in the leg.

"He had no idea where the shots came from," Thomason said.

The teen was taken early Saturday to the hospital, where he was treated and released. No one else was injured.

Thomason said the teen reported that some type of argument took place outside the club when the party was going on, but that he was not involved.

Thomason asked anyone with information on the shooting to call Danville police at 431-2250 or Vermilion County Crimestoppers at 446-TIPS (8477).
