DANVILLE — Danville Area Community College trustees on Tuesday could take a big step toward replacing the Clock Tower Center roof.
The board will meet at 7 p.m. in Vermilion Hall, Room 302, at the campus, 2000 E. Main St. A copy of the agenda and board packet is available online at http://bit.ly/11DoPBt.
Trustees will vote on whether to award a $288,000 bid to Advanced Wayne Cain & Sons for the work. Two companies bid on the project, and the Urbana firm offered the low bid.
The total cost of the project, including architectural and engineering fees and a 5 percent contingency fee, would be about $323,500.
The project calls for replacing the current artificial slate shingles, which are 20 years old and already are showing extensive wear in several locations, administrative services director Mike Cunningham said. He said the new roof will have a 50-year warranty.
"We're putting on the same shingle that we've installed on our other renovations on campus including the Bremer Center, the Mary Miller Center and Lincoln Hall," he said.
Walton & Associates Architects of Springfield will oversee the project, which is set to begin this summer.
"We definitely would like to have it done this summer when there is less activity on campus," Cunningham said.
Also at the meeting, officials will recognize outgoing Student Trustee Neal Boyd, whose one-year term expires on April 14.
DACC will hold an election for a new student trustee in April and is scheduled to swear in Boyd's successor at the board's April 23 meeting.
