Blues society workshop scheduled

URBANA — The Prairie Crossroads Blues Society will present the second in a series of Blues in the Schools educational workshops for third-, fourth- and fifth-graders from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday in the Lewis Auditorium at the Urbana Free Library, 210 W. Green St.

Part of the workshop will focus on blues history and be presented by Courtney Cain, a University of Illinois graduate student in African-American history. Also, Doug Schroer, a local musician and blues harmonica instructor, will give instruction on the harmonica. A free harmonica will be given to the first 25 children who participate in the workshop.

Funding for the workshop comes from a UI Orange Krush Foundation grant.

The blues society is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, promoting and educating the community about the blues; it is an affiliate of the Blues Foundation based in Memphis. For more information, visit http://www.prairiecrossroadsblues.org.
