Event to show student talent, honor teachers
DANVILLE — The Danville Public School Foundation will celebrate excellence in teaching and spotlight the musical talents of students at "An Evening of Singing and Dancing."
The event will be held at 7 p.m. April 12 at the Dick Van Dyke Auditorium at Danville High School, 201 Fairchild St., Danville.
Tickets are $5 apiece and may be purchased at the two McDonald's locations in Danville, D102 radio station at 1501 N. Washington St. or at any school.
Danville Mayor Scott Eisenhauer will serve as master of ceremonies.
There will be performances by the district's five award-winning show choirs including North Ridge Middle School's Radiant Reds and Redcoats, South View Middle School's Encore and Danville High's Contemporaires and Delegation.
The foundation will also present the 2013 David L. Fields Outstanding Teacher awards. This year, the recipients are: Verna Graham, of Southwest Elementary, the Primary Teacher of the Year; Jeff Cooper, of Garfield Elementary, the Intermediate Teacher of the Year; Mitzi Campbell, of Kenneth D. Bailey Academy, the Middle School Teacher of the Year; and Chris Taylor, of Danville High, the High School Teacher of the Year.
The awards are given to teachers who have demonstrated superior effectiveness in student success, collaboration, continuous learning and leadership.
The proceeds of the event will be used to support new, creative and innovative educational opportunities for students.
