Hoopeston library changes checkout procedures

HOOPESTON — Starting April 1, Hoopeston Public Library patrons must present a valid library card to check out all items.

Checkouts will not be available on April 9 and 10 because the library will be converting to a new computer automation system. However, the library will be open for other services including computer use, photocopying, faxing and the use of the reading areas.

Full services are expected to resume on April 11. After that date, patrons may be able to check out items without their card, but they will be asked to present valid photo identification.

Without a library card, however, the wait time to check out may be substantially increased, officials said. That's because the new database will continue more than 2.5 million names from more than 500 libraries in the Illinois Heartland Library System.

After April 11, patrons who have lost their library card may obtain a new one by presenting valid photo identification and paying $1.

For more information, call the library at 283-6711.

What an interesting story!  No wonder nobody subscribes...

The same procedures will probably be used for all of the surrounding libraries with the merge and changing to Polaris software. Champaign and Urbana libraries have their own system so no changes there.
