Urbana police arrest Champaign man for selling suspected heroin

URBANA — A Champaign man is being held at the Champaign County Jail after police observed him selling suspected heroin to a police informant in Urbana.

Lawrence P. Lewis, 20, who listed an address in the 300 block of Stoneway Court, pleaded innocent on Wednesday to unlawful delivery of a controlled substance.

According to an Urbana police report, an informant working with the police department arranged to make a purchase of 1.1 grams of suspected heroin from Lewis.

The report said Lewis showed up in a business parking lot in the 2500 block of South Philo Road on Tuesday afternoon, and the police informant gave money to Lewis in exchange for the substance.

Police observed the exchange from surveillance, followed Lewis as he drove away from the parking lot in a vehicle and arrested him.

The report said police recovered the money used in the purchase.

Judge Richard Klaus set Lewis' next court appearance for May 21.
