Six guns stolen in burglary

THOMASBORO — Burglars took six guns from a rural Thomasboro home Tuesday or Wednesday.

Champaign County sheriff's Sgt. Dan Coile said the son of the homeowner at County Road 2600 N, north and east of Thomasboro, arrived home about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday and discovered the theft of guns from an unattached garage.

There was no forced entry to the garage but a side door and the bay door were discovered open and a gun safe had been entered. Coile said the owner believed that the burglars found the key to the safe, which was hidden in the garage.

A handgun, two shotguns and three rifles, with a total value of $4,100, were stolen.

Coile said the resident reported that his garage had been burgled on March 15 and the gun safe damaged but guns were not stolen then.

Anyone with information about the break-in is asked to call the sheriff's office at 217-384-1213or Crimestoppers at 217-373-8477.
