Drug charges dismissed against three

URBANA — Three of four men criminally charged in Champaign County in connection with heroin sales in Champaign have had their cases dismissed.

This week and last week, felony drug charges were dismissed against Davante Hopkins, 18, and D'angelo Neal, 20, both of Park Forest, and Dwight Harper, 52, of Chicago Heights.

The three were charged in early November with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance after heroin, cash and drug paraphernalia was allegedly found in a home in the 1300 block of Paula Drive in Champaign where they had been staying.

Police served a search warrant Nov. 1 at the house after receiving complaints about traffic there.

Assistant State's Attorney Dan Clifton said Mr. Harper died since the charges were filed and he dismissed the charges against the two teens because of Mr. Harper's unavailability to testify.

Clifton said charges remain unresolved against a fourth man arrested with them, Reggie Neal, 53, of Park Forest. He's due back in court April 23.
