Reminder: Windsor Road work starts Monday

PARIS — Work begins Monday on the replacement of the bridge carrying Windsor Road over Interstate 57 in west Champaign.

The new bridge will be wider to accommodate pedestrians and bicyclists on both sides. During construction, one lane of traffic will be maintained on Windsor Road using temporary traffic signals.

I-57 will be closed to traffic at various times to remove the bridge and to set the structural steel beams for the new structure. The closures will happen on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Interstate traffic will be detoured using Monticello Road, U.S. 45 (South Neil Street in Champaign and Dunlap Street in Savoy), Springfield Avenue (Illinois 10), Mattis Avenue and Interstate 72 (Church Street for westbound and University Avenue for eastbound) as well as the I-57/72 interchange.

The project is expected to be finished Nov. 1, weather permitting. The contractor for the $2,376,785 project is O'Neil Bros. Construction.
