Bridge work to close I-57 on three nights

CHAMPAIGN — The Illinois Department of Transportation announced Thursday that work on the bridge carrying Windsor Road over Interstate 57 will require closures on I-57 three nights next week for the partial removal of the old bridge.

The closures on I-57 will begin at 10 p.m. on April 9, 10 and 11, and the interstate will be reopened the following mornings by 6 a.m.

Traffic on I-57 will be detoured using Monticello Road, U.S. 45, Springfield Avenue, Mattis Avenue and Interstate 72.

Drivers are asked to slow down, obey posted limits and drive carefully through the work zone.

I understand closing 57 but who thought up that detour! Maybe we can route them thru Urbana too.

Since this is a IDOT project, the detour route follows IDOT maintained streets through Champaign. Each of the streets on the detour are state streets.

You beat me to it... but that is correct.

I pity the people who live along those sections of Springfield Ave. The volume of trucks running through there will be a noisy mess. Don't forget to buy some earplugs when you are out this weekend.
