Mahomet man charged with burglary, trespass to vehicle

URBANA — A Mahomet man was criminally charged Thursday after he allegedly got in another man's van without the owner's permission.

Mahomet Police Chief Mike Metzler said a man living in the 200 block of North Jefferson Street reported seeing a man inside his neighbor's van about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday. The neighbor yelled at the person in the van and the man took off.

Police found Joshua A. Walker, 24, of the 500 block of East Franklin Street nearby and questioned him. He admitted being in the van but said he was there to return money he had stolen from the van two weeks earlier, Metzler said.

Walker was charged with burglary and criminal trespass to vehicle and told to be back in court May 7.

It's high time folks start getting charged with BEING IN VAN.

Hopefully this trend catches on, and we can look forward to headlines such as "Urbana man charged with being in living room" rather than the old standard: "Urbana man charged with home invasion." LOVE YOU, N-G!

Seriously? This guy invaded a vehicle. Maybe we should change this to your liking.

"Carjack attempted"

"Criminal burglary atempted in vehicle."

It's high time folks started shouting down the likes of you.

You obviously don't get the joke...

At least it wasn't down by the river ...

No, not seriously.

Well look at that! The headline has been changed to reflect that this man was charged with an actual crime. We'll miss you, "being in van."

HAHA.  I was wondering how many others clicked on this just for the headline!

Ha!  I did!  I clicked on the story just because of the headline.  I agree with TheChiefLives.  It's a pretty lame headline!

The same guy who helped set Sangamon Elem playground equipment on fire a few years ago and wasn't charged because he had the mentality of a 3rd grader. He'll get away with it anyway.

Yeah, he has been caught dozens of times for a very wide range of crimes from peeping tom to theft. He constantly lurks at night when most of the community is asleep, and gets away with it most of the time because of his mental issues.

The police tell you there isn't much they can do. He's been on probation several times, it does no good.

Because he is only 24, this will go on for decades more.

It will until he breaks into the wrong vehicle, or home when the wrong owner is present.  It will eventually end badly for him.
